Research Area: As the global market leader in the field of defensive fire and disaster protection, Rosenbauer demonstrates a high degree of innovative strength as a technology leader. To this end, innovation activities have a long-term focus and research and development is an essential part of the company's business activities. The focus of research and development is on municipal and specialty vehicles, firefighting components (like pumps, ladders etc.) and equipment. However, in its in-house research Rosenbauer also adresses social trends in order to identify needs and demands for the fire equipment sector at an early stage, this might for example refer to global warming and the effects of climate change.

Achievements: Recent innovation was achieved in developing new vehicles for aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), with completely new extinguishing technology. At the other end of the research and development spectrum, an emphasis is on technical and personal protective equipment, like a new generation of firefighter helmets with new geometry and an innovative material compound. For each advanced product, attention is also paid to product design with respect to shape, size and weight, so that firefighting equipment can be stowed compactly in fire trucks and used quickly and intuitively by the firefighters. Rosenbauer is holding many patents relevant for the firefighting sector.

Staff Qualifications: People who are working in research and development typically have a degree or professional qualification on various levels from technical colleges, universities of applied science as well as (technical) universities in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, robotics, electrical engineering and electronics or software engineering.
Rosenbauer regularly provides several programmes for students and schoolchildren through internships and vacation placements (from 10th grade) and projects for diploma dissertations, as well as visiting programmes for schoolchildren and presence at schools and universities in order to arouse an interest in the company at an early age.
